The revolutionary Catamount line of
piercing tools from HammerHead® offers the
industry a reciprocating head tool that is easy to
start, regardless of air pressure level, and is the
first pneumatic piercing tool head effective in both
hard and soft soil conditions. The new Catamount tool
line is currently available in 2.5" (64 mm), 3" (76 mm)
and 4.375" (111 mm) diameter tools.
Smart Head Technology
HammerHead designed the Catamount
so the head is driven by air that resets the head,
eliminating the need for mechanical springs, which are a
common source of failure in trenchless tool designs.
This design allows for a faster and easier start by
eliminating the need to overcome recoil found in
competitive models. The Catamount design takes full
advantage of reciprocating head technology by increasing
production rates in all soil types and also reduces tool
swim at any operating pressure.
Power Port®
This patented quarter-turn reverse
feature pneumatically locks the tool into forward or
reverse gear, preventing accidental direction change
during the bore. The valve whip is designed to be
flexible, preventing tool binding if a bore collapse
occurs.
One-Piece Body
The Catamount
design features a one-piece body made of heat-treated
alloy steel versus welded or tubular construction. This
design allows HammerHead to use a much heavier striker,
increasing overall impact force. The one-piece body also
provides better durability and tool life.
Striker Wear Rings
The one-piece striker contains a
set of wear rings that eliminates metal-to-metal
contact, providing a sustaining level of performance.
Clamped Rear
Anvil
The patented rear anvil is a
hallmark of the HammerHead piercing tool design. This
feature provides up to 200 percent more clamp load than
competitive models and offers fast and easy field
maintenance capable of being performed on the tailgate
of your truck.
Active Head

HammerHead
Active Head® Mole
piercing tools are specially
designed to perform in adverse
ground conditions. The
reciprocating head design
features a double-strike system
that utilizes the initial impact
force to increase production in
difficult soils such as cobble,
hard clay and hardpan. Active
Head piercing tools are
available in 2” (50 mm), 2 1/2”
(65 mm) and 3” (75 mm) models.
Replaceable Head
The
specially designed head / body
retaining system and replaceable
wear rings on the bit shaft and
head promote longer life and
sustained performance levels.
Heavier
Striker and Wear Rings
HammerHead
uses a much heavier striker than
competitive models, that
provides overall increased
impact force and production. The
one-piece striker contains a set
of wear rings that eliminates
metal-to-metal contact,
providing a sustaining level of
performance.

capable of being performed on
the tailgate of your truck.
Standard Tools

|
|
The
HammerHead®
standard piercing tools
are ideal for regular
and soft soils. The
ability to easily change
the replaceable head
leads to longer tool
body life. Standard
piercing tools are
available in 2” (50 mm)
to 8” (200 mm) models.
Heavier Striker and Wear
Rings
HammerHead uses a much
heavier striker than
competitive models, that
provides overall
increased impact force
and production. The
one-piece striker
contains a set of wear
rings that eliminates
metal-to-metal contact,
providing a sustaining

Screw Reverse
This option offers
flexible control of the
tool and has a neutral
position for easy
locating.
Power Port®
